Friends Seminary's new semi-annual magazine, Meetinghouse, is now online! Please click here to read the issue. Previously titled News From Friends, this publication aims to highlight our unique community, grounded in Quaker values, telling the story of our scholars, artists, and athletes—past and present. The magazine also features reflections by our community members.
Friends previously produced a supplemental publication, Class Notes. Moving forward, our alumni community may enjoy those notes in our alumni newsletter, which is emailed at the beginning of every month. You should have also received the printed magazine via mail last month. If you did not receive it, please email mmudho@friendsseminary.org.
Please note that a few corrections have been made in this digital release:
The Class of 2020 matriculation list has been updated.
In the cover story about Ed Carrol '56, it was stated that another Black student did not attend Friends until 1966. This is not the case, and the reference has been removed.
Sabrina (Andrea) Loomis ‘60 was incorrectly listed as Class of 1964.
Finally, In commissioning the profile of Ed Carroll, we recalled reunion 2016 when Ed and Steve Chinlund '51 spoke about the Friends Seminary parent and student bodies' campaign to admit a Black student to the School and about Ed's experiences at Friends. We wanted this profile to bring to a wider audience Ed's recollections and reflections on a time that had shaped his life in many ways.
The punching incident recalled by Ed was remembered by the other student as a fight during a touch football game after school. Both note that they were friendly after and throughout high school. We apologize for the misspelling of Peter Schrag's name. We have corrected the error in the digital version of the magazine.
