National Women and Girls in Sports Day is celebrated every year in the month of February. This year, Friends held our very own Girls in Sports Day on Monday, Feb. 27 for Grades 3, 4 and 5 girls. Cat Guerriere, Coach Natasha Delgado and Coach Deanna Petrucci hosted an afternoon of fun activities in the gym!
Dear Friends,
March is Women’s History Month! As we acknowledge and recognize the generations of women who have fought for equity, justice, and access to essential rights particularly in health care. This year, our annual Upper School Day of Concern, highlighted reproductive justice and access to health care—issues deeply rooted in social justice and gender equity.
This month reminds us of the important role women have played throughout history, globally, nationally and at Friends Seminary – from early Quaker women advocating for equality to our esteemed alumni like Edes Powell Gilbert '49, who as a middle school student advocated for the integration of students of color at Friends Seminary. We are proud to feature two alumni including Faye Tsakas '09, a documentary filmmaker recently featured in the New York Times, (click here to read her article) and G.O.L.D. (Graduate of The Last Decade) Spotlight, Sophie Moody '15 currently in her third year of medical school at the University of Rochester.
April is fast approaching and I am excited to share that we will have some engaging programming for our alumni. On Thursday, April 10 an Alumni Meeting For Worship will take place in the Meetinghouse and will be led by former faculty, Drew Adair. This year’s We’re All Grown Ups Now event featuring, former teacher and Faculty Emerita, Linda Chu on Thursday, April 17 and lastly, our Alumni Career Symposium which will take place the following day on Friday, April 18.
Your connection to Friends Seminary is vital to our community's strength. We invite you to share your valuable thoughts through our Alumni Engagement Survey, accessible here. Your feedback helps us better serve and connect with our growing alumni network.
In stewardship,
Michael Mudho
Director of Alumni Relations
