Dear Friends,
This month we look forward to our Peace Week Programming. Thank you to all the alumni, current and former faculty members who attended the 2024 Holiday Assembly and the Alumni Appreciation Gathering. The turnout was amazing, with alumni in attendance from the Class of 1957 to our recent alumni from the Class of 2024. Check out all the past events and what’s coming up in this issue.
Dr. Meredith Evans '90, Director of the Carter Presidential Library in Atlanta, is our Peace Week keynote speaker this year on Thursday, January 23. With the recent passing of President Jimmy Carter, Dr. Evans’ address is especially relevant and timely. She will speak about how Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter devoted their lives to helping and encouraging others through policy and deeds. In her talk, "Positive Peace: Belief and Brains over Brawn," Meredith will share what she learned from them and how they achieved such global impact. This event is free and open to the greater Friends community, and will be preceded by a reception starting at 5:30 PM in the Common Room. To attend this evening event, please click here. We hope you can join us. Beyond this important event, we also want to highlight some exciting news from our alumni community.
Continuing the theme of positive contributions to the world, we are thrilled to feature two alumni working in literature and public service. Laurie Gwen Shapiro '84, whose book, The Aviator and the Showman: Amelia Earhart, George Putnam, and the Marriage That Made an American Icon, will be released later this year. Our G.O.L.D. (Graduates of the Last Decade) spotlight features Chi Ossé '16, the youngest member of the City Council, who spearheaded legislation to shift the burden of broker fees from renters to landlords. Please feel free to share any exciting personal or professional highlights or projects you are working on as they occur.
In the coming weeks, you will receive an invitation to complete an alumni engagement survey. We are eager to hear and learn from your feedback and identify opportunities for you to volunteer and give back in a meaningful way to Friends. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Finally, a reminder that there will be an open session for Alumni with our Head of School Search Consultants on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 6:30-7:30 PM via Zoom. Click here to RSVP, and save this link for the meeting. Alumni are also invited to complete a survey for the consulting team and search committee. Click here to complete the survey by Friday, Jan. 24.
In Stewardship,
Michael Mudho
