Letter from the Director of Alumni Relations

Dear Friends,

November invites reflection on what we’re grateful for. As Patrick Smith ’12 shares, “I’ll always cherish the sense of community and values that Friends taught me. Meeting fostered togetherness, and I appreciated the Quaker consensus, acknowledging both agreement and respectful disagreement.”

As I think about what I am grateful for at Friends, my thoughts turn to the Grade 4 students whom I help during lunch every Friday. Even though lunch duty is a requirement for all faculty and staff, this experience, especially the exchanging of smiles and high fives, has become a highlight of my week. I’m also grateful for our dedicated faculty and recent opportunities to attend events like MS English Teacher Leana Phipps’ Art of Teaching lecture, a recent Grade 12 potluck, and campus tours with alumni from the Classes of 1976 and 1991. These moments enrich my connection to our Friends community.

In this month’s newsletter, you’ll find stories of alumni making an impact in the legal and commercial fields, along with a trip down memory lane with Faculty Emeritus Charlie Blank.

A few highlights of upcoming alumni events include:

  • National Philanthropy Day: Join us in celebrating the impact of giving at Friends. Click here for more information.

  • Paul Taylor Dance Company Event (November 19): Alumni are invited to enjoy discounted tickets and a reception, thanks to Elisabeth Robert ’91. Email mmudho@friendsseminary.org to reserve your spot.

  • Skyspace Sunset Experience (December 3 & 9, at 4:30 PM): Seats are limited and will be offered on a first come, first served basis. Click here to reserve your place.

  • Peace Week (January 21-24): Featuring alumna Meredith Evans ’90 as our guest speaker. More details to follow!

As we look ahead, please reach out with any ideas to help us connect our alumni and strengthen our community. In the meantime, updates, news, and story ideas are always welcome!

In stewardship,

Michael Mudho
